NAIAS 2016: Alfa Romeo
Alfa Romeo has been teasing their new Giulia Quadrifoglio sedan for a while now, but delays have pushed the launch date back several times. The latest estimate suggests it will arrive to dealers late this summer. There is also talk of an SUV based on the Giulia, but that is not scheduled to launch until 2017.
NAIAS 2015: Kia
While Kia did not have any exciting new cars to announce in Detroit, they did have plenty of their existing lineup on display. The Soul EV, already being sold in a few select markets, is an all-electric version of their hot-selling Soul with a 93-mile range. While the starting price is high at $33,700, tax credits are available. It is nice to see Kia trying new things with the Soul, but what would get us even more excited is an all-wheel drive version.
NAIAS 2015: Lexus
The 2016 GS F is the latest F model from Lexus. It uses a 5.0L naturally-aspirated V8 which produces 467 horsepower. That may be less power than its turbocharged German rivals, but the GS F also boasts a significant weight advantage of more than 350 pounds over the M5 and E63. It will go on sale late this year.
NAIAS 2015: Cadillac
The 2016 CTS-V debuted in Detroit as the most powerful Cadillac in history, and it reaches 60 in 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 200 mph thanks to 640 horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque. Power is fed through an 8-speed auto from the 6.2L supercharged V8 LT4 straight out of the Corvette Z06. That is an 84 hp gain over the previous CTS-V, enough to top both the BMW M5 and Mercedes E63, and it should be cheaper too, although official pricing has not yet been announced.
NAIAS 2015: Jeep
The Renegade is a new subcompact crossover from Jeep that will be arriving at dealers in the next few months. Fiat Chrysler has a lot riding on the Renegade as it will be a global vehicle, and here in the States, it is expected to take a large chunk of the market that is currently filled with less off-road worthy options such as the Kia Soul and Nissan Juke.
NAIAS 2015: Mercedes
Mercedes made headlines with its F 015, an ambitious self-driving hydrogen concept car. Its unique design received a lot of attention, and its lounge-style seating has four rotating seats. The full name, F 015 Luxury in Motion, seems more like a headline than a proper name, but this car will never see production.
NAIAS 2015: Dodge
707 horsepower from the supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8 Dodge Challenger Hellcat was justifiably attracting a lot of attention at NAIAS. Dodge has put a lot of thought and energy into their powerful retro modern sports cars and it shows. While the Challenger might not be the most attractive car, Dodge has made it more friendly for everyday use than rivals due to its good visibility and a slightly larger backseat.
NAIAS 2015: MINI
MINI brought the new John Cooper Works Hardtop which features a 228-horsepower turbo-four and usual JCW goodies such as sport suspension and body kit. Starting price is $30,600 and it goes on sale this spring.
NAIAS 2015: Chevy
The Bolt EV is still a concept, but Chevy hopes to turn it into a production model in the next few years. It is an all-electric car with a 200-mile range and $30k sticker price.
